Shocking that one of the premier galleries, one which I've been to many times, and was noted for running on verbal commitments and a reputation for absolute reliability has come to be a lawyer- laden warzone, with artists likely to be in contention just to recover consigned works. This is a lesson for us all: document! Things do change; even good paper documents may not work as well as you'd think. Possession IS hard to overcome, that's a fact.

Oriane has done a great thing in writing such a comprehensive article. Allan was, exactly as she described, a delightful person. I enjoyed just running errands with him and talking, and that did rub other family members the wrong way. When I stayed at the house in Purchase, NY, I could sense the tension, but it never emanated from Allan, who would never sweat the small stuff. He liked ice cream, a burger and a beer and a good laugh. I hope for the best with Claudia, who worked harder than anybody I've ever known and was always straight with me. All the work of mine that Allan didn't actually purchase, he deserved to keep for the help and support he gave to me.

Well. This is certain a read! So sorry Oriane Stender had to have this
experience (and any other artist as well). Interesting to be reminded
of the journalist's responsibility to fact checking and legal proofing and
to see how FB can play a role in a sticky situation.

I wonder if things will ever change...have heard this story before in other
versions.

Artists have to try to change these experiences....find the proper protection. Thinking on it.
