Ellen Handler Spitz captured the presence of Leo Steinberg in her moving essay," Liminal Leo: Morning Leo Steinberg". I was privileged to have known Leo as a student and friend. Dr. Spitz's remarks brought back memories of time spent with this remarkable man. i do not believe anyone can replace him.

Last March, I paid tribute to Leo Steinberg, http://artwithhillary.blogspot.com/2011/03/art-historian-leo-steinberg-1920-2011.html. It seems so inadequate. At that time, it was all I could do. Now Dr. Spitz has made Leo come alive once more. Those who read her comments will surely understand what was lost with the passing of this man.
