Anoka Faruqee leaves us perceptually dazed and conceptually confused, each in quietly delectable ways. The LA-raised, Brooklyn and New Haven-based painter (she is an instructor at Yale) sort of retreads the ground of Op Art with her moiré effects and interspersing of wave fields but sort of doesn’t at the same time, with surfaces that – for all their pyrotechnics – leave no doubt in the viewers mind that these are paintings, albeit that their motif evokes any kind of screen but the painted picture plane.
